Warren Buffett once said, “Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.”  What tree have you planted?

Trees are nice to have around and I hope you plant more trees each and every year.  However, I don’t think Mr. Buffett was actually talking about horticulture when he made this statement.  I am quite sure he was referring to the actions you take today that help you, and others, prosper tomorrow.  What investments have you made that are helping to shade your tomorrow?

Here are 3 simple things you can do today to plant an investment that will provide more shade each and every day from here on out:

1.  Make a plan to get out of debt.  Not only are you not planting trees when you are in debt, any trees you may already have are being dug up and burned.

2.  Setup an automatic savings plan.  Whether it be your retirement savings or a regular savings account, create an automatic savings process so you are saving some money each and every month.

3.  Read to learn every day.  Find something to read that will add more knowledge to your skill set.  Either learn something completely new or become a little bit better at what you are an expert on today.
